Insurance Law

We buy insurance for protection from unfortunate circumstances. Insurance is simply a contract between the insurance carrier and the policyholder under which the insurance company agrees to pay for defined losses in exchange for payment of premiums by the policyholder.   First party insurance coverage pays for a loss incurred by the policyholder and liability coverage protects the policyholder if sued for committing a covered act such as negligence.

It is important that the policyholder strictly comply with the terms of the insurance policy. This includes timely reporting the claim, submitting required proofs of loss and cooperating with the insurance carrier. The failure to do so may provide the carrier with a defense to paying the claim.

In the event your carrier denies coverage or delays in paying a claim, you should consult with an attorney immediately.
